The recent Microsoft Windows 11 update (24H2) has advertently killed the support for WMR (Mircosoft Mixed Reality) Headsets. The discontinuation of Windows 11 support for the HP Reverb G2 virtual reality headset has effectively rendered the device unusable.

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community.
Microsoft's Mixed Reality Portal software has been discontinued for support and updates.
Therefore it is recommended that you use an older version of Windows to connect this VR device.
For example Windows 10 / Windows 11 with the lower version 23H2.
Linux section.
There are indeed some open source projects supporting this hardware in Github.
You can use the search tool to search for keywords such as HP Reverb G2 + Linux
Not bad at all.
And of course Steam VR fully supports the HP Reverb G2.
You can run Steam VR in newer versions of Windows.

There you go, barely 2 years since I bought this headset for a modest sum of 750 € + the two controllers 200 €.
And you tell me that my headset is obsolete, do the math over two years that's a lot of money for me.
So either you give us a driver for the most recent Windows, or you compensate us with this loss.
I no longer have the means to buy a new headset, money doesn't fall from the sky for some.

No, I'm sorry Shawn, that is just plain wrong.
Steam does not recognize VR hardware without Windows Mixed Reality Portal.
I wasted hours on this rabbit trail... the only real option (other than switching to Linux) is going to back to Win11 23H2.
(I purchased a new Win 11 23H2 install DVD, robocopied files from DVD to a USB drive, made the USB bootable, and then installed from that.)

Microsoft has just announced the end of the line for its take on VR. Effective immediately, Microsoft has ended support for Windows Mixed Reality. Microsoft's VR features will be removed from future versions of Windows, making any Mixed Reality headsets you may have quite useless.
Windows Mixed Reality ran parallel to Microsoft's HoloLens efforts, which have resulted in a $3,500 enterprise headset (HoloLens 2) that is not part of the cancellation. Microsoft announced the end of Mixed Reality with the least fanfare possible. The feature was added to a list of deprecated Windows features on the Microsoft website. Along with support for Mixed Reality headsets, the Mixed Reality Portal app and Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR are going away as well.
