The Google Chromecast 2's device authentication certificate expired on March 9th/10th 2025, preventing use of all devices via any method. Workarounds are known already, but no word yet from Google on a fix from their end, or if one is even coming.

Google have responded to the outage 24 hours later, warning users not to implement workarounds to fix the issue:

They say that a fix is "in the works" with no timescale offered.
