Lifetime licenses (2019)[edit | edit source]

In 2019, a lawsuit was filed alleging the lifetime memberships that costed $357-$755 should be good for the life of the consumer rather than the device itself.[5] The lawsuit was settled in 2021, with 964,000 individuals receiving $421.5 million in benefits.[6] These benefits included either to reactivate the lifetime subscription or recover $100 according to the attorneys associated with the case.[7]

A similar suit was filed in 2018, but was later dismissed and settled out of court in 2020.[8] SiriusXM no longer offers lifetime memberships.

Subscription cancellation (2024)[edit | edit source]

In November 2024, a New York judge found SiriusXM liable for the “long and burdensome” process of cancelling a SiriusXM subscription, which violated the Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act.[9] The lawsuit was filed in December 2023 and it was reported it took 11 minutes to cancel over phone and 30 minutes to do so online.[10]
