Nike, Inc. is an American multinational corporation specializing in athletic footwear, apparel, and equipment. Founded in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman, it became Nike, Inc. in 1971, named after the Greek goddess of victory. Its iconic Swoosh logo was designed by Carolyn Davidson for $35.
Initially a distributor for Onitsuka Tiger (now Asics), Nike launched its first sneakers with the Swoosh logo in 1972, including the innovative Waffle Trainer.
