Dyson ends relationship with third-party repair centers
Incident
Dyson updated their repair policy to give customers the following three options to repair their Dyson devices:[1]
- Visit a Dyson Service Center
- Online troubleshooting
- Contact Dyson
It is no longer an option to go to third party repair centers. Dyson further states that "it was a difficult decision to make", and that they "are committed to ensuring that all our services and repairs meet Dyson's high quality standards for our owners"[1]. There was no evidence provided that 3rd party repair centers could not live up to this standard.
On a related and more recent note, Dyson only provides replacement parts for parts that need no tools to replace, internal parts are not sold at all[2]. Dyson states that "the installation process could expose our customers to the risk of electrical shock, and all repairs should be carried out by a competent qualified engineer"[2], by which they mean only by Dyson.
Impact on consumers
Whenever customers need to repair their devices, they can only go to Dyson themselves for the repair.
