Fraudulent business practices
There’s a general consensus that Eugene engages in unfair business practices, and displays a pattern of deceptive behavior to scam people out of money. His work is believed to be rather sloppy, despite the stellar reviews on his profiles on various platforms, such as Yelp. It is alleged that Eugene hires bot farms to give him 5 star reviews to artificially increase his trustworthiness.
According to one individual, when renovating his home, Eugene used Oriented strand boards (OSB) instead of plywood, made a squeaky floor, and ran off with the money. After said individual did a deep dive on him, he found out that, allegedly, his house burned down suspiciously close in time to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) placing a lien on him, asking for money.
General tips on handling contractors
- NEVER give them the full amount upfront. If they are legitimate, they usually will take the job anyway. The best approach is to pay them weekly, only after inspecting the work they did, to make sure there are no shenanigans going on.[1]
- Employ the use of the “Trust, but verify” approach. You don’t have to be paranoid or totally distrust them, but you have to keep in mind that they will bend the truth whenever it’s convenient for them, usually for monetary gain.[1]
